Our Story

Meet Genevieve

Genevieve “Genny” Brewah is a student, young author, and the creator of Peaceful Garden.

Curious and creative, Genny enjoys learning, writing, gardening, and finding meaningful ways to give back to others.

Her interest in gardening began simply—with choosing seeds, planting them, caring for her plants, and watching them grow. Over time, that experience sparked questions about nature, well-being, responsibility, and the joy that can come from nurturing something with patience and care.

Those questions eventually grew into the idea behind Peaceful Garden.

It Started in Genny’s Garden

Genny has always enjoyed the process of gardening—from selecting seeds and planting them to caring for her garden and watching it change over time.

Her interest became strong enough that she would do chores at home to earn money for seeds and gardening supplies.

As she planted, waited, cared for her plants, and watched them grow, gardening became more than something she enjoyed doing.

It became a place to slow down, pay attention, be patient, take responsibility, and appreciate what can happen when something is given time and care.

Kindness Was Growing Too

Genny’s interest in giving back developed alongside her other interests.

As a young author, she discovered that something she created could also become a way to help others. Through her book, The Night of the Soldiers, Genny chose to use proceeds from her book sales to give back to her community, including supporting Harford Family House.

That experience strengthened an idea that would later become important to Peaceful Garden: something small and meaningful to you can also become a way to bring kindness to someone else.

Curiosity Started Growing

As Genny spent more time in her garden, she began thinking about why the experience meant so much to her.

She found herself asking:

Those questions sparked a deeper curiosity.

Genny began learning more about the connections between gardening, nature, activity, responsibility, purpose, and well-being.

She became interested not only in what grows in a garden, but also in what people can learn, experience, and feel while caring for one.

Genny began asking another question:

“How can I share some of the joy I experience through gardening with someone else?” That question helped move Peaceful Garden from curiosity and learning toward kindness and community action.

The Original Peaceful Garden

Genny brought her questions, observations, and learning together to develop her original Peaceful Garden project.

Through the project, she explored how gardening and spending time with nature can create opportunities for enjoyment, movement, responsibility, purpose, and moments of calm.

She later had the opportunity to present her Peaceful Garden project at a Carson Scholars banquet.

Presenting the project was an important part of the journey, but the idea continued to grow.

Genny began asking another question:

“How can I share some of the joy I experience through gardening with someone else?” That question helped move Peaceful Garden from curiosity and learning toward kindness and community action.

From Learning to Action

Genny began thinking about simple, thoughtful ways to help other people feel remembered, encouraged, and valued. Rather than keeping what she was learning within her own garden, she wanted to find ways to share that sense of care and connection with others.

From that idea grew two Peaceful Garden projects:

Plants of joy and Cards of Hope.

Plants of Joy

For People in Care Communities

Plants of Joy shares small potted plants with people living in participating nursing homes, assisted living communities, and other residential care settings.

The idea is simple: offer a thoughtful connection to nature and a reminder that someone is thinking of them.

A small plant can be something to enjoy, care for, and watch grow over time.

Cards of Hope

A little flower of encouragement for a child.

Cards of Hope creates cheerful handmade cards with encouraging messages for children receiving care in participating hospitals.

Each card is thoughtfully created to offer a small moment of kindness and remind a child that someone is thinking of them.

The cards can be colorful, creative, and uplifting, with messages designed to encourage and brighten someone’s day.

The Story Is Still Growing

Peaceful Garden continues to grow as Genny learns, creates, asks questions, and finds new ways to connect with her community.

What began with a student’s love of seeds, soil, and watching things grow has developed into a journey centered on curiosity, kindness, creativity, learning, and connection.

Peaceful Garden is still growing, and so is the story.

Growing Kindness. Sharing Joy.
